The Department of Transport announced that the traffic tariff gates in Abu Dhabi will be subject to a trial period starting from October 15 until January 1, 2019. No tariff fees will be calculated during this period.
This decision was made with the aim of giving drivers more time to complete the registration procedures in the system and giving them the time needed to organize their daily trips.
It has also been announced that monthly fee ceilings will be applied to each vehicle, in addition to daily fees of a maximum of 16 dirhams, and amount to 200 dirhams for the first car and 150 dirhams for the second vehicle of the same owner.
Senior citizens, retirees, people of determination, and people with limited incomes are exempt from traffic tariffs when applying them, making them the lowest-fee traffic gates of its kind in the world.
When the system is implemented on January 1, 2020, transit fees under these gates will be 4 dirhams, from Saturday to Thursday from 7 am to 9 am, and from 5 pm to 7 pm.
For the rest of the day, Friday, and public holidays, the fee will be reduced to 2 dirhams.
The Department of Transport and the Integrated Transport Center in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi recently decided to change the location of the traffic tariff gate on the Mussafah bridge to cover the entrances to the Abu Dhabi Gate area, in a move aimed at preventing the accumulation of vehicles that may try to circumvent the tariff gate by entering the Abu Dhabi Gate area, and then return to The main street.
Traffic tariff gates were placed on the four main bridges of Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge, Al Maqta Bridge and Mussafah Bridge.
