Murree situation: At Least 21 Die Trapped In Vehicles After Snowstorm

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has also confirmed about 21 deaths in Murree while an emergency has been declared in Murree and Queen Kohsar has also been declared a disaster victim.

All the families and citizens stranded in Murree area have been shifted to government rest houses and hotels and their needs including medicines, food and warm clothes are being met. punjab police said, 90% of Murree roads have been cleared.

According to police, there were 33,745 vehicles entering Murree till last night out of which 33,373 vehicles have been evacuated.

The Meteorological Department had on January 5 issued an alert regarding the ongoing rains and snowfall in the country. Heavy snowfall alert was issued in mountainous areas.

The Meteorological Department had earlier said that due to heavy snowfall, communication roads could be closed. Avalanches and landslides were reported in Kashmir, Gilgit and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Now tourists visiting Naran, Lake Saif al-Muluk and other resorts have been stopped after incident in Murree. a check post has been set up at Kawai below Sugaran and tourists are being prevented from proceeding.
