White House Says: U.S. Tracking Explosion in Beirut Closely.

The United States is closely following the explosion that took place today, Tuesday, at the port of Lebanon, the White House said.

For her part, Pentagon spokeswoman Commander Jessica Mac Nolte confirmed that the US Department of Defense is following the developments of the explosion in Beirut and it is too early to comment.

A large explosion took place today, Tuesday, in the port of Beirut, causing casualties and dozens of injuries and great damage in different parts of the capital. Residents panicked, with devastation throughout the capital.

Cause of the Explosion is not yet known-  A security source said that he Had Occurred in the Beirut port - near the center of the capital, indicating two successive explosions.

Two witnesses told an AFP journalist at the scene of the explosion that dozens of wounded people were still lying on the ground on the land of the port.

Security forces blocked all roads leading to the port, and journalists were prevented from approaching.

Only ambulances and civil defense were allowed to pass. Relatives of employees at the port were arguing with the security forces, insisting that they enter the campus’s grounds to check on their relatives.
