Syed Abdullah of Gujrat, who was stranded with his family on the way to Murree, said, We left home in the morning to see the snowfall, but the situation here is dangerous. i don't know where to go - there is no way back.

This situation is not new in the Galyat areas of Murree and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan's Punjab province.

Every year, as the snow begins to fall on Murree and the surrounding mountains, thousands of tourists from the plains of the country turn their vehicles towards Murree and Galyat.

Roads to these mountainous areas are often closed in the evening on holidays due to rush and slippery conditions and thousands of tourists are stranded in these areas and vehicles.

According to hotel industry sources, 80% of the hotels in Murree and Galyat are full of tourists, but these are the tourists who had already reached Murree and Galyat due to the snowfall.

In addition, there are thousands of people who create their own entertainment program after the news of the snowfall and as a result get stuck on the road.

According to Dr. Malik, spokesman of the Meteorological Department, the snowfall is yet to stop across the country and it will continue to snow in the hilly areas on Monday and Tuesday, so tourists should wait for the snowfall to stop and only after that Murree, Galyat, Swat. Turn to Gilgit-Baltistan after getting information from the local administration.

According to Galyat Development Authority spokesman Hameed, this is the seventh spell of snowfall in Galyat. The spell is snowing heavily and has so far averaged an estimated three feet of snow.

Mr Hameed said,  during the snowfall It is not possible to remove snow from the roads. but as soon as the snowfall is expected to stop on January 15. the removal work of snow will start Immediately' after which we will be ready to welcome the tourists.

Mr. Hameed said that there are still tourists at Nathia Gali and other places for which two facilitation centers have been set up at Changla Gali and Nathia Gali. Currently, a Quick Response Force has been set up with the help of the police, which is always ready to help tourists.

Mr. Hadi of Swat Tourism Club, a tour operator from Kalam Swat, said he estimated up to 40 inches of snow had fallen. the main road to Kalam is open but there are many problems for small vehicles. They are slipping while big vehicles are leaving.

There are not much problems as far as Kalam- But all the Connecting roads from there are closed- he said. about 10,000% tourists have arrived in Kalam, but there is still space in the hotels.

Mr. Hameed said, "We do not recommend traveling during snowfall, but if someone encounters snow during travel, they must take some basic precautions."

The most important thing is that visitors Travel with Chains on the wheels of their cars. so that the car does not slip on the Ice- If your car is front wheel drive then the chain should be on the front wheels. and if your car is is back wheel drive then it should be on the rear wheels-

He said that The first thing is that Everyone should' bring a chain' with them. It is generally available and its price ranges from one thousand to fifteen hundred." If they do not bring it with them, these chains are also available for rent at various places in Galyat.

Mr. Hameed said that the fare for a trip from Changla Gali to Nathia Gali, if a large vehicle is used with the help of a driver, is fixed at Rs 1,500 and for a small vehicle at Rs 1,000.

Mr. Sardar Afzal, who has been driving on the Galyat and Murree routes for 20 years, said, "Even if the snow is removed from the road after the snowfall, the slipperiness does not go away. When turning, put your car in first gear.

Also, avoid using the brakes repeatedly, let the tires rotate at a lower speed as this reduces the risk of slipping. Use engine and gear power on the slope and keep the speed of the vehicle moderate with the accelerator.

According to Hameed, such people should keep the air in the tires of their vehicles low, weak tires and vehicles should not be used while the vehicle should have enough fuel.

There is a risk of landslides due to snowfall at any place along the way, so keep warm clothes, dry food, etc. with you.
